REPRESENTED ARTISTS Bettina Costa (CH), Francesca Meier (CH), Tjefa Wegener (CH) Curated by Melanie Kuratli (CH)

EN | At the fair Art Fair on 23.08.2020 in Gais, kunsthallekleinbasel will be showing small formats in the manner of the 2017 exhibition «MORE THAN 100 FRAMES». In Appenzell-Ausserrhoden we will be presenting «EIN KLEINFORMATIGES ENSEMBLE» with works by three selected Swiss artists: Collages by Bettina Costa, photography by Tjefa Wegener and paintings by Francesca Meier. Bettina Costa, the artist who was born in Argentina and now lives in Rheinfelden, focuses in her abstract collages on the tango, the dance that reminds one of her homeland. From Tjefa Wegner, the nature-loving Basel photographer who specializes in nude photography, we show black and white photography, an excerpt of her reportages from the country. Two new landscape paintings by Francesca Meier, born in Madagascar and now living and working in Basel, complete the ensemble of small-format works. The presentation was organized by budding art historian Melanie Kuratli, who has been working as curatorial assistant for the Basel initiative since 2020.

Bettina Costa (CH) | COLLAGE

Bettina Costa (*1965 in Rosario, ARG) lives and works as visual artist in Rheinfelden (CH). She works with acrylic, collages and stencils. Tango is often a recurring motif, which she represents in a variety of forms and with different techniques, as street art or as installations. Her paper and digital collages represent bizarre, whimsical scenes and the sometimes absurd current society. They are the casual, accidental fusion between reality and dreams. In the creation, the artist is completely free of mind and logic, so that the artistic subconscious and spontaneous mood could take control.
